Event Details

Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) families are invited to share feedback about the district’s student assignment plan at a series of community listening sessions taking place over the next two weeks. The first listening session will be held at Southern High School, 8620 Preston Highway, on November 8 at 7 p.m.

“Ensuring that our student assignment plan supports students in the best ways possible is a priority for me as superintendent, and the input of our families and stakeholders is an important part of that process,” JCPS Superintendent Marty Pollio said. “Just like forums previously held around our innovative Backpack of Success Skills initiative or our bold new racial equity policy, we always want to make sure we’re listening to our community before decisions are made.”

The district reviews the student assignment plan every five to seven years. During the upcoming sessions, a committee of parents, teachers, principals, district administrators, and community representatives will listen to comments. Information will be collected and a recommendation will be provided to the Jefferson County Board of Education in 2019. A communitywide survey will also be distributed at a later date, and any changes made to the student assignment plan would be in place by the 2020-21 school year.

Community listening session dates are as follows:
• Thursday, November 8 at Southern High School, 8620 Preston Highway (7 p.m.)
• Saturday, November 10 at Central High School, 1130 W. Chestnut Street (1 p.m.)
• Monday, November 12 at Valley High School, 10200 Dixie Highway (7 p.m.)
• Wednesday, November 14 at Ballard High School, 6000 Brownsboro Road (7 p.m.)
