January 17, 2018 – Louisville residents have the opportunity to help the Jefferson County Board of Education (JCBE) select the new superintendent to lead the Commonwealth’s largest school system serving more than 100,000 students in 155 schools.

A recently launched webpage, JCPSYourVoice.com, includes an online survey open to any member of the community wishing to provide input to be considered in the superintendent selection. JCBE has named two finalists in its search for the next superintendent of Jefferson County Public Schools. The two finalists – Acting Superintendent Dr. Marty Pollio and JCPS Chief Operations Officer Dr. Mike Raisor – were announced during the Jan. 9 school board meeting.

The survey will help the Board of Education understand the community’s priorities for the new superintendent as well as provide an opportunity for participants to provide any additional input.

“The selection of the superintendent is an important community topic and we want to provide an opportunity for all voices to be heard and to help inform the school board’s decision,” Diane Porter, chair of the Jefferson County Board of Education, said. “Together we can continue to move JCPS forward and prepare our students for bright futures.”

The school district is promoting the survey through email to all JCPS parents and employees, as well as through social media and public service announcements. Those without internet access may take the survey through computers at the Louisville Free Public Library branches. In addition, the JCPSYourVoice.com website has available surveys translated to several languages.

The survey will be open through Friday, Feb. 2.

Public forums planned

Area residents also may provide input in person by attending an upcoming public forum. The Q&A-style meetings are an opportunity for the public to meet and hear from the finalists.

All meetings will be begin at 6 p.m.  Scheduled public meetings include:

  • Thursday, Jan. 25, Central High School
    1130 W. Chestnut St.
  • Monday, Jan. 29, Gheens Auditorium
4425 Preston Hwy. (adjacent to Louisville Male High School)
  • Tuesday, Jan. 30, Ballard High School
    6000 Brownsboro Road
  • Thursday, Feb. 1, Pleasure Ridge Park High School

In addition to information gathered through the public input process, the Board of Education also will receive recommendations from a Superintendent Screening Committee, including parents, teachers and a non-teacher employee of the district. The Board expects to make a final decision by March 1.
