The Louisville Urban League in conjunction with Humana, would like to introduce Louisville to our newest health initiative Targeting the 4 West Louisville Zones of Hope neighborhoods (Russell, California, Parkland, and Shawnee), “It starts with me!” This initiative is our effort to connect health services, activities, and education to those most in need. Over the course of about a year, we will send community health navigators and social workers into these neighborhoods, door-to-door, seeking to serve entire households by:
- assisting individuals and families in securing health insurance and navigating Medicaid or Medicare;
- connecting children to safe, quality after-school activities;
- referring family members to health education and health skills classes at local organizations;
- educating families and individuals on free and accessible physical activities, such as walking groups; and
- connecting individuals and families to fresh, healthy, and affordable foods.
We look forward to expanding  on yet another leap toward equity in access to resources and improving the overall quality of life of every person in our community.
