Services for Job Seekers

The Center for Workforce Development (CWD) is a resource to individuals who are actively involved in job search, seeking a career change or in need of job training. Guests can utilize software to practice and build keyboarding/data entry skills, and receive assistance with setting up email accounts, completing online job applications, and posting resumes.

The League’s Workforce Development staff is comprised of experienced Certified Workforce Development Professionals who possess the talent and passion necessary to help our clients overcome potential employment barriers.  These obstacles may include:  inadequate family support system; past involvement with the criminal justice system; inadequate academic preparation; and lack of job skills.

Get Your Career in Gear is a comprehensive one hour introduction to the programs and services of the Louisville Urban League Center for Workforce Development that provides information on our Counselor-assisted services.

Monthly workshops are offered for individuals preparing to enter the competitive labor market. Training is designed to sharpen participant job readiness skills thus increasing their marketing ability. Workshop topics include Resume Writing, Interview Skills, Job Search Strategies, Intro to Computers and Transformations which focuses on budgeting and finances.

CWD offers free employment services to individuals with diverse skills and educational levels. The CWD is staffed with trained, Certified Workforce Development Specialists and professionals who provide:

  • Career coaching & case management
  • Assessments
  • Job readiness training
  • Job search assistance and referrals
  • Job placement
  • Post-placement follow-up services

Services for Employers

The Center for Workforce Development serves as a viable source for employers to recruit diverse candidates, particularly minorities and women, with various skill sets and educational backgrounds.

Free of charge, employers may post employment opportunities through the CWD Job Bank and receive referrals of candidates that are pre-screened and best suited for the employment opportunity.

Center for Entrepreneurship

The Urban League serves as the front door for current and aspiring Black business owners looking to start-up, stabilize, or scale. The League offers:

  • 1-1 business coaching with LUL staff with a focus on business fundamentals – business plan development, LLC establishment, business registration, business banking, etc.
  • 1-1 financial coaching with assistance in preparing revenue and expenses assumptions, establishing budgets, identifying total capital needs, etc.
  • 1-1 credit repair counseling for those whose personal financial situations impede their ability to access business financing
  • Free professional services (accounting, legal, marketing, etc.) coordinated by the Black Back Office

Black Business Partnerships

The Urban League Center works collaboratively with other organizations dedicated to helping Black businesses succeed in Louisville. Key partnerships include the AMPED Russell Technology Business Incubator, the Louisville Small Business Development Center,  and the Black Business Association/Buy Black Lou. Collectively, we are providing better, more coordinated technical assistance for Black businesses in our city.
