Louisville Urban League’s Statement Bigotry and Anti-Semitism

We are appalled at the misogynistic and antisemitic statements spoken on the House floor in Frankfort yesterday (Marc 2, 2022) by a Republican legislator. As a civil rights organization fighting for a more equitable present for Black Louisvillians and the marginalized, we understand all too well the harm gross stereotypes and veiled bigotry can do to individuals and communities. Thus, we urge all legislators to hold their colleagues accountable. We also implore those who have been silent to organize, speak up, and vote racists and bigots out of office. If this is what they say publicly, imagine what is held in their private thoughts. Thoughts that impact every policy, every vote cast on the floor, and ultimately the quality of life for every Kentuckian. We deserve better.

Finally, we understand that there may be some question about the health of the legislator who made the comments. If health is an issue, we suggest he be allowed to resign to focus on recovery.
