Urban League Leaders Morial & Reynolds Denounce Violent Hate Crimes, Call For Prosecution “To the Fullest Extent of the Law”
Louisville, KY, October 27, 2018—National Urban League President and CEO Marc H. Morial and Sadiqa Reynolds, President and CEO of the Louisville Urban League, called on federal authorities to prosecute the Jeffersontown shooter to the fullest extent of the law, particularly in light of a recent spate of violent hate crimes across the nation.
“Even as we mourn Maurice Stallard and Vickie Lee Jones, who were murdered by a racist shooter at a supermarket, we stand with our Jewish brothers and sisters in Pittsburgh and mourn for their loss,” Reynolds said. “We hope that people across the country will begin to mourn with us and we call on leaders in every walk of life to denounce hate.”
The fatal attack at a synagogue in Pittsburgh followed closely on reports that the Jeffersontown shooter tried to enter First Baptist Church. The incidents also were linked by hateful racist comments made during the attacks.
“There are not now, nor have there ever been good people on both sides, Morial said. “The only good is and will remain on the side of justice.”
