Oprah Winfrey summed up the essence of change when she penned these simple words in one of her most popular novels, “step out of the history that is holding you back. Step into the new story you are willing to create.”
We all have burdens and are all tasked with daily decisions. These decisions, at times, can feel overwhelming and inhibit our ability to contribute to the changes we want and need in our homes, our families, our community and even ourselves. But the time for that to end is NOW and that is why I am pleased to announce the launch of W.E. (Women Engaged), a women’s support group sponsored by the Louisville Urban League.
The goal of W.E. is simple: to collectively address the needs and issues facing urban women through both conversation AND action! Through facilitated discussion on topics that impact our community W.E. will create and execute a vision for the changes we want to see in the lives of our sisters and our community. As the woman of wisdom I know you to be, I am asking you to become an active participant in this spirited vision.
The kick-off session and launch of W.E. will be held on Saturday, August 20 from 9:30 a.m.-12 noon at the Louisville Urban League—1535 W. Broadway—mark your calendar now! Many of our sisters, including us, are in need of various kinds of assistance, and are struggling to create the life they truly want to live. It is time for you and me to get involved! Your involvement in W.E. may be the key to another sister’s survival and success. So join us as WE chart a new course and, collectively, move past all that has held us back and create a new story! Are you willing to step out of the history that is holding us back and work together to make a difference? I hope the answer is YES!
