To the men and women of the NBA, WNBA, MLS, MLB, and professional athletes all over who chose to use their voice, their work, and their bodies in protest in the name of justice for Black people, we in Louisville see you and appreciate you. What you have done will amplify the cries of communities in ways unimaginable and will reverberate through time.Â
Louisville is one of many centers of unrest and like several other communities, we are yearning for justice for our sister, Breonna Taylor. Hashtags, protests, and heartfelt interviews are no substitute for justice, but they allow people to feel seen and heard and validated in their rage. And when the systems at the root of that rage are unyielding, that means something.Â
Your stand is personal for us as we know it is for so many of you. Rajon Rondo is a son of Louisville and Jazmine Jones, Donovan Mitchell, and many others are adopted daughters and sons of this city. To know their voices were among those raised in solidarity is meaningful. Thank you all for utilizing your platform and activating your power, let’s work together on a path forward (apathforward4lou.org).
As Andre Iguodala said, “there is a human issue here.” History will record your fists in the air.
You will certainly dribble again but shutting up is not an option.
