Louisville Urban League’s Statement On Metro Council Resolution To Address The Adverse Effects Of Redlining

This evening, Metro Council Member Keisha Dorsey will present for a vote an ordinance to address the adverse effects of decades of redlining. The Louisville Urban League supports this intentional allocation of funding and the acknowledgment that comes with it of the disparate impact on African American communities as a result of these discriminatory policies. The League is further supportive of directing this funding to innovative efforts to increase homeownership in these same redlined communities and simultaneously decrease the number of vacant and abandoned properties therein. We applaud the sponsors of this ordinance and particularly Councilwoman Dorsey for her leadership in advancing this important legislation.
