Josiah’s Story
Project Ready (PR) is the Louisville Urban League Education & Empowerment team’s signature program for students in grades 9 – 12. Over the course of a year, students will be prepared to successfully transition from high school to college by completing college coaching assessments, practicing professional skills, and exploring college options. This month we want to highlight program participant Josiah Finley.
Josiah is a graduating senior attending Atherton High School and has been an active member of PR for 3 years. Josiah credits PR for providing information on how to prepare for college, reviewing course offerings, and understanding the financial aid process. He learned the skills necessary to network for scholarships, command a room with his presence, and navigate the education system. Through PR, Josiah engaged in college exploratory discussions and panels, participated in college tours, and completed hundreds of hours in civic engagement.
Josiah carries a 4.3 GPA, is a full international baccalaureate diploma candidate, and will complete his high school career with enough college credit hours to begin college as a sophomore. Because of his commitment to scholarship, Josiah was accepted to more than 20 post-secondary institutions. Josiah committed to North Carolina A&T and has received a full-ride scholarship. He plans to major in Biology on the Pre-Med track to become a Neurologist.
