The Louisville Urban League, Signers of A Path Forward for Louisville, Demand Transparency and Action on Louisville’s Consent Decree Implementation
Signers of A Path Forward for Louisville and other community members are signing an open letter to the Mayor and Louisville officials demanding specific actions related to implementing the city’s Consent Decree. While the Mayor has publicly stated his plan to implement the decree, he has not been specific about how that will happen.Â
The DOJ’s findings of systemic misconduct within the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) are clear and emphasize the mandate from the people of Louisville. Community members and leaders demand that the Mayor and Metro Council take specific actions, including establishing a robust community oversight board, hiring an independent monitor, and ensuring transparency and accountability.
The history of LMPD and the most recent pushback against the Inspector General are clear indicators that the department is unable and unwilling to correct itself. Community oversight and involvement in interpreting and detailing the consent decree are essential to any hope of a future rooted in justice, equity, and respect for all.
Community members are invited to join the call for meaningful action by signing their name here: https://apathforward4lou.org/louisville-must-act.
