Peyton’s Story
When a violent tornado struck Mayfield, KY, Peyton Holland made a bold move to Louisville. The Louisville Urban League has specialized in helping people recover from whatever storms sent them packing, understanding that a move to a new city with limited contacts can make it difficult for a relocator to find solid work. This was the case for Peyton, but a friend suggested she reach out to the League since she had a background in construction.
After consulting with workforce staff, she was fast-tracked into a job through the Kentuckiana Builds program. Peyton interviewed with a partner of LUL, the Zoeller Pump Company. She aced the interview and earned a job starting at $21/hour. LUL also provided a voucher to replace work clothes lost in the aftermath of the tornado. Peyton is thankful for the opportunity presented by the Louisville Urban League, stating, “I’m now in a much better place because of the assistance offered by the League, and I’m making a better living than before the storm.”
