Louisville Urban League Derby Gala
Honors Community Changemakers

The Louisville Urban League (LUL) is proud to present its most prestigious event of the year, the Derby Gala presented by Humana. This annual “party with a purpose” is the preeminent fundraising event to support our mission and also a time to honor those in the community who stand shoulder to shoulder with us in the pursuit of equity for all.

The Whitney M. Young, Jr. Legacy Award recognizes an individual or organization that has made a lasting impact on the Louisville community in the areas of Jobs, Justice, Education, Health, Housing, or Entrepreneurship. This year’s honoree is poet, activist, and Louisville icon: Hannah Drake.

The Accomplice for Justice Award recognizes an individual or organization that has been an outspoken advocate and demonstrated exceptional commitment to equitable change, social justice, and the empowerment of our community. This year’s honoree is veteran reporter and news columnist Joseph “Joe” Gerth.

The evening includes a fundraising program followed by a concert featuring legendary hip-hop artist Common plus funk-soul group Tank & the Bangas. The main program has sold out, but concert-only tickets are available through Sunday, April 26, 2026.
