Park Duvalle Tree Planting
April 7, 2018 @ 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM UTC-4
Louisville Grows plans to plant over 150 trees in Park Duvalle to “treecipients”- residents in the neighborhood looking to make an impact to the tree canopy- to do this we need your help! Volunteers are what make these plantings possible; from registration, to meal helpers, and (of course) planting the trees! To get involved contact [email protected]
Louisville Grows works with community partners and neighborhood groups to plant trees with residents and businesses in our community. The goal of training Citizen Foresters is to empower people who care about their neighborhood, with the tools and knowledge to make a meaningful impact by planting and ensuring the long-term viability of trees. Citizen Foresters, our trained volunteers who lead urban reforestation efforts, are an integral part of ensuring we can effectively increase the tree canopy! Since 2013, Louisville Grows has partnered with the Portland, Germantown, Shawnee, Schnitzelburg, Russell, Shelby Park, Beechmont, and California neighborhoods for tree plantings.
Sponsored by Great Lakes Brewing Company.
Schedule:
Please arrive by 8:45 a.m. to allow time for registration. (Citizen Foresters arrive an hour earlier)
8:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.: Breakfast and Registration
Volunteers arrive for check-in. Enjoy Heine Brothers Coffee, juice and bagels will be provided.
9:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.: Welcome and Orientation
Following a brief orientation we’ll split volunteers into ‘zones.’ Each zone is led by two trained Citizen Foresters who will provide directions to the first address in your zone where you will plant a tree.
9:30 – 2:00 p.m.: Planting Trees
The Citizen Foresters will lead a planting demonstration and then assist volunteers with planting trees in their zone until all trees are planted.
Noon – Lunch and Check-in
Lunch is provided at the staging site. We plan on maintaining our tradition of soup, fruit, and bread. Meet new people and share about your experience!
1:00-2:00 Wrap Up and Help Out
After eating, volunteers return to their zone or another zone to assist with tree planting (if needed).
We recommend that you dress in layers. Waterproof outerwear is ideal. Of course, you’ll be digging in dirt and handling mulch, so please wear clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty. We’ll provide adult-sized gloves, and we recommend wearing sturdy shoes. Also, bring a water bottle.
All our volunteers can expect certain things from their experience with Louisville Grows (LG).
