JUSTICE
Advocacy & Initiatives
The Louisville Urban League’s Center for Justice and Policy Initiatives works to make Louisville a fairer and more inclusive community. We help people get involved in their communities, learn about their rights, and take part in democracy. The Center registers voters, offers civic education, and provides free expungement services, enabling individuals to access employment opportunities, secure housing, and exercise their right to vote. Each year, we help hundreds clear their records and reach thousands through voter drives and community events. We also advocate for fair laws in the areas of criminal justice, voting, and economic opportunity—ensuring that every voice is heard and every community is represented.

The Reily Reentry Project
The Reily Reentry Project, named for former Urban League board member Stephen Reily, began as a simple idea. Several Urban League clients were ineligible to vote, obtain better-paying jobs, or were excluded from housing due to their criminal history. Reily worked with former LUL President Sadiqa Reynolds to establish an expungement clinic and pledged an initial $100,000 to fund it. Six years later, the work continues and has progressed from a one-day clinic to a regular service, removing barriers for individuals with criminal histories and promoting their reintegration into society.
VOTE!
The 2026 elections in Kentucky will shape the future of our communities through critical local and state races that impact education, public safety, housing, and economic opportunity. Through The Power Shift, the Louisville Urban League is mobilizing our community to honor our legacy of civic action and inspire residents to participate in local elections. Together, we are working to increase voter engagement, strengthen collective power, and ensure our voices are heard at the ballot box in 2026.
