FAQs

A Healthier Path Forward focuses on improving access to healthy food, increasing physical activity, and strengthening overall wellness — especially in communities that have historically faced structural barriers to health. While weight-based measures like BMI are commonly used in clinical settings, they do not fully capture child health and can vary significantly by age, development, and population.

Instead, this dashboard highlights indicators such as food access, fruit and vegetable intake, physical activity, and improvements in provider-tracked health measures. These reflect sustainable, upstream changes that support long-term health.

These metrics reflect measurable activity and outcomes among children and families directly participating in funded programs. However, the broader impact of this work often extends beyond what can be fully captured in monthly reporting.

For example, improving access to fresh food in neighborhood stores, strengthening partnerships with clinics and community organizations, and increasing the availability of healthy options in everyday settings can benefit many more families than those formally enrolled in a program. Not all of these ripple effects are easily measured at the individual level. This dashboard highlights what we can responsibly track and verify, while recognizing that systems-level improvements and community-wide benefits may extend further.
