Advocacy & Initiatives

The Louisville Urban League’s Center for Justice and Policy Initiatives works to make Louisville a fairer and more inclusive community. We help people get involved in their communities, learn about their rights, and take part in democracy. The Center registers voters, offers civic education, and provides free expungement services, enabling individuals to access employment opportunities, secure housing, and exercise their right to vote. Each year, we help hundreds clear their records and reach thousands through voter drives and community events. We also advocate for fair laws in the areas of criminal justice, voting, and economic opportunity—ensuring that every voice is heard and every community is represented.

The Reily Reentry Project

The Reily Reentry Project, named for former Urban League board member Stephen Reily, began as a simple idea. Several Urban League clients were ineligible to vote, obtain better-paying jobs, or were excluded from housing due to their criminal history. Reily worked with former LUL President Sadiqa Reynolds to establish an expungement clinic and pledged an initial $100,000 to fund it. Six years later, the work continues and has progressed from a one-day clinic to a regular service, removing barriers for individuals with criminal histories and promoting their reintegration into society.

VOTE!

2024 is a historical election in Kentucky. The votes we cast will elect our next President, choose local and state representatives, and decide on a constitutional amendment that could change the future of education in Kentucky. After a dismal 41% Jefferson County-wide voter turnout in the 2023 primary election, the Louisville Urban League works to motivate our community, draw on our legacy of protest, and inspire people to show up and vote in the 2024 election. We need your help to reclaim the vote!

Stop Police Violence in Louisville

We stand united in our frustration and determination. No longer will we stand by and allow Black and Brown people to be abused by law enforcement.
