The Louisville Urban League Guild is an auxiliary of the Urban League, which supports its mission through community service. As the heart and soul of the movement, members serve as goodwill ambassadors to the community, promoting programs, encouraging volunteerism, and fundraising.
General body meetings are held on the second Monday of each month at the Louisville Urban League’s office, 1535 West Broadway, Louisville 40203.

Guild History and Activities
Organized in 1948 by the late Mrs. Mae Street Kidd, it is one of the oldest Guilds organized by the National Urban League. Our members have made an impact on local and national levels. The late Thelma Clemons was appointed as the first female board chair of the Louisville Urban League Board of Directors and the first female board chair of any Urban League affiliate in the national movement. Mrs. Sheila Carson-Smith and Mrs. Claudia Smiley Geurin have both received the coveted National Mollie Moon Award for volunteer service. Nola Howell-Bullitt and Sheila Carson-Smith have both served as officers of the National Council of Urban League Guilds.
Our activities include: Annual Scholarship Jazz Brunch honoring senior community volunteers and awarding scholarships to high school graduates; Thanksgiving Basket Giveaway partnering with UofL Athletics to provide food for needy families; Get Out the Vote election activies to register voters and provide voter education; Holiday Party for nursing home residents and Angel Tree program providing clothing and toys for children of incarcerated parents; Women’s History Month Celebration recognizing the contributions of women through leadership and volunteerism; and Annual Health Fair with local health agencies to distribute information and provide mammogram screenings.
