Youth Development and Education Programs
The Center for Youth Development and Education Programs is designed to develop young leaders while focusing on the experience of black and marginalized people. Our participants receive a robust youth development curriculum that helps them examine historic and contemporary challenges to apply them on their journey. Moreover, we strive to provide unique opportunities for experiential and project-based learning. Additionally, each youth development program we offer is combined with a free, evidence-based intensive tutoring program.
Intensive Tutoring
Through our intensive tutoring program, the Louisville Urban League provides a direct response to the academic achievement gap that has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Participants are required to adhere to the prescribed tutoring schedule associated with the approved tutoring agency. We currently offer tutoring through our partnerships with Kumon Learning Centers and Equitas Prep. For more details, visit the Intensive Tutoring information page.
Project Ready
Project Ready is the Louisville Urban League Education & Empowerment team’s signature out-of-school-time program for students in grades 9 – 12. Over the course of a year students will be prepared to successfully transition from high school to college by completing college coaching assessments, practicing professional skills, and exploring college options. Each Project Ready participant is required to participate in our intensive tutoring program as well.
Caregiver Action Coalition
The Louisville Urban League’s Caregiver Action Coalition supports parents whose children participate in our Education and Empowerment programming. Our goal is to connect our parents with resources secured by the Louisville Urban League and our community partners. Additionally, we provide opportunities for parents to learn more about advocacy so that they can better understand how to make sure their community serves their interests.
Scholarship Opportunities
The Louisville Urban League, in collaboration with the Louisville Urban League Guild, community members, and others distribute academic scholarships to well-deserving students every year. Scholarship winners are recognized at a scholarship banquet near the end of the school year. Applications and eligibility requirements are available through the link below.
Education programs at the Louisville Urban League are sponsored in part by Louisville Metro Government.
