Homebuyer’s Club

Louisville Urban League, with the help of local sponsors, offers the 8-hour Homebuyer Education class in which participants learn about the home buying process. This comprehensive class is invitation only for individuals/families that have completed the Homeownership Counseling Program, have reached a 640 credit score and have $2,000 in savings. Homebuyer Education class is composed of three evening sessions from 5:30 pm-8:00 pm, and on occasion, we hold a one-day Saturday class from 9 AM-5 PM. The certificate that will be awarded at the completion of this class is a requirement for any down payment assistance you wish to apply for.

Homebuyer Education is taught by HUD- Certified Housing Counselors and industry specialists in the fields of mortgage lending, home insurance, real estate (including closing agents) and home inspection, who explain the ins and outs of the home buying process. This course focuses on understanding real estate contracts, home inspections, home maintenance, homeowners insurance, completing a residential loan application, the loan closing process, renting vs. buying, and fair housing.

Homebuyer Express

Homebuyer Express is available via eHomeAmerica. It is a certified web-based program for prospective first-time homebuyers. Easily accessible through any device 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, you can learn the ins and outs of home buying by taking the comprehensive, fun and engaging course at your own pace. There is a $99 fee for this course.

You are a good candidate for Homebuyer Express if:

    1. You have met with a lender about getting a home loan and are pre-approved
    2. You have no outstanding collections or judgments
    3. Your FICO credit score is 640 or higher
    4. You have a savings of $2,000 or more
    5. You qualify for Down Payment Assistance

If you do not meet the above criteria, you may want to start with our FIT class/orientation and proceed with Homeownership Counseling.
