Protect Your Refund From Student Loan Debt

If you have federal student loans in default and typically receive a tax refund, your refund could be taken to pay your student loan debt. Before you file, it’s a good idea to check the status of your student loans and understand your options to protect your tax refund.

A national campaign called Dial Before You File encourages borrowers to check their student loan status and get trusted help before filing taxes. Call the Treasury Offset Program Call Center at 1-800-304-3107 to see if you are on the list to lose some or all of your federal tax refund to pay overdue federal debt. More information
