Good Morning,

At the advice of the Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness, we have decided to temporarily suspend VITA operations beginning on Monday, March 16th. With the number of clients we see each day, the potential to transmit the coronavirus taxpayers or volunteers is high, and we will prioritize the health of our community.
For this upcoming Saturday at LUL, please encourage any volunteers, staff, or taxpayers that participate in the VITA program to stay home if they are feeling ill. We also encourage staff and volunteers to stay home if they believe that is the best option for them. We encourage staff to take precautions by wiping down tax preparation stations between completing returns and avoiding direct contact with clients (no handshakes, hugs, etc.).
As of now, we will tentatively plan to open back on Monday, April 6th, along with JCPS. If the current situation changes, this date may move up or be delayed further. The appointment system will not be accessible during this period. During this time, we encourage taxpayers to use our free, online filing options that are accessible on our website. We will also be working to increase our capacity to assist taxpayers in completing their own returns through additional resources and an accessible email address to ask questions as they arise.
At this time, the IRS has not issued an official extension of the filing deadline, but it is possible that they may do so. We will be sure to update you regarding any changes to the tax code that may affect our clients during this time.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions or concerns. We greatly appreciate your support of the VITA program and your hard work in making this filing season so successful.
Thank you,
Christopher Murphree
