The Louisville Urban League presented Edwin H. Perry with its Social Responsibility Award in recognition of his firm commitment to social and economic empowerment demonstrated through distinguished leadership and volunteerism in advancing the game of golf and its values to all youth. Ben Richmond, President/CEO of the Louisville Urban League made the presentation during The First Tee of Louisville’s fundraising event “Tales of the Tin Cup, An Evening with Butch Harmon” held on August 5, 2014, at the Kentucky Center for the Arts.
According to Ben Richmond, “Ed Perry has volunteered with the Louisville Urban League’s Urban Youth Golf Program for well over a decade. His engagement with the program and the desire to grow its reach and impact inspired Ed to be the catalyst behind forming the Youth Golf Coalition, Inc. aka The First Tee of Louisville 10 years ago to unite and grow youth golf programs in our community. Today thousands of disadvantaged youth are exposed to golf annually and have the opportunity to learn not only the game but life and leadership skills that will help them throughout their life. Under Ed’s leadership The First Tee of Louisville has grown significantly, operates at multiple locations, and is responsible for major investments in youth golf facilities across the community. The League’s Urban Youth Golf Program has grown as a result of our partnership with The First Tee of Louisville and Ed’s leadership”
